Hair Salon Website Template Free: NZ Salon Superstar of the Week – Bedelia Shepherd of Nelson Beauty Therapy DOUBLES her salon’s turnover just one month after joining the Inner Circle Program!

“Thank you for your support leading up to Christmas, we have been blown away with our results. We have more than doubled our last Dec turnover and the vouchers sales bought in just under $18000.”

It’s amazing the amount of times I hear salons owners say “my accountant has advised me not to join the Inner Circle program because my business can’t afford it”.  I find it so utterly bemusing that any person would tell you to not invest in the ONE THING that is going to make you money….marketing!

Bedelia Shepherd of Nelson Beauty Therapy

And that is exactly what happened to Bedelia Shepherd of Nelson Beauty Therapy in Nelson 18 months ago when she was looking to join the Inner Circle program.  As it happened, she only joined in December 2009 and has already doubled her monthly turnover since then.  If only she hadn’t listened to that business adviser’s bad advice 18 months ago, she would be in a completely different place now with her business.   Here is what Bedelia has to say…..

WOW … I’m so excited with the results we are achieving.  Since I joined the Inner Circle program a month ago, we have doubled our turnover in that short period of time. The girls in the salon are right behind everything we are doing with our marketing and in- salon promotions. Our customers are excited and can feel the positive energy.

There is a lesson in this for me I’d love to share with you! 18 months ago I spoke to Greg and wanted to join WSM but allowed myself to be talked out of it by very well meaning business advisers! Their reasons being ‘my business couldn’t afford it’….!!I Needless to say I don’t use their services anymore!

My advice if I can be so bold is ……..your business can’t afford not to belong to WSM.

I’m very thankful and extremely grateful to both Greg and Chris for their support, and this is only such early days, but the simple saying of “surround yourself with positive people with successful business practices and your half way there” is certainly true in my case.

In the first week of January we have done the entire retail sales of last January and exactly half of the beauty sales for the whole month! We haven’t even implemented all the marketing we set out to do just yet! Now things have settled down a bit I can breathe and spend time on planning.

Really looking forward to this exciting year and seeing what I can achieve.”

Salon Business Marketing 101: The Mistake of Linear or ‘Consecutive’ Marketing

rockclimbingYesterday we took a call from a distressed Member, a salon who’s been with us for several months.

“I ran two ads in a local magazine, and got zero response.”

Among the dozens of calls and emails we get every week, from salon owners expressing delight and wonder at the results they’re achieving as a result of doing ‘my’ kind of marketing, there’s always one or two who complain they’re not getting the same results. And when I analyse it, it almost always comes down the same thing.

Expecting sensational results from only one piece of activity.

The Inner Circle members who do incredibly well – and there is ample evidence of them throughout this website – are without exception those who live by the creed of Massive Action. Those who fail to emulate those results are, without exception, those who regard marketing their business as something of an ‘experiment’ – as if it’s something that a scientist would do in a lab, they test the water one toe at a time. They do one ‘thing’ – one ad, or one small mailbox flyer, or a single one-page letter to their clients, or a sample run of text messages to a tiny proportion of their database, and somehow expect a stampede of customers.

Such expectation is always a mystery to me. You want BIG results? Do BIG things – and not consecutively, all at once.

This salon business owner is hardly alone. Most salon businesses make the mistake of linear (or consecutive) marketing; doing one ad, flyer or letter, waiting a month to see what happens, and then doing another thing, waiting another month, and seeing what happens with that.

Worse, the mindset of the ‘linear’ marketers is such that not only do they do things one at a time, they also do ’em too small – typical of the timid.

Inner Circle member Cherie Hardman (middle) and staff at Femme Fatale in Jannali, NSW with their Ultraceuticals A-List salon award for 2009

Evidence this, just emailed today, from Inner Circle member Cherie Hardman of Femme Fatale Beauty & Skincare, in Jannali, NSW:

“We have now had the pleasure of being a member over 2 Christmas periods and although our increased profits were more spectacular in Christmas 2008, they were more spread out over the months leading up to Christmas this year (due to the special offers you told us to do in Nov). The big one for me is I have cut back to 3 days a week in the salon, and will take up to 6 months PAID maternity leave this year which would never have been possible before joining WSM. We have definitely noticed that when we  ‘market big’ we receive big. We also mix things up a bit such as we not only have our normal packages with the add on’s but we also created an additional festive overhaul similar to one of the templates in your Toolkit.”

Marketing your salon business cannot be timid. Recently another member complained that she’d ‘tried our kind of marketing and IT doesn’t work’…. she claimed that a particular campaign that had been incontrovertibly proven to generate thousands of extra dollars for a huge number of our Members had completely failed for her. When pressed, she admitted she’d sent it out to ‘about 25 of her clients’.

Twenty five??? That’s ALL? Yep, 25. No wonder it didn’t work, she didn’t give it a chance. The science of marketing is about numbers. And any statistician will tell you that 25 is far too tiny a sample to provide results of any reliability at all.

But the biggest mistake is doing ONE thing, waiting for a result, and then doing the next thing, and so on. The trouble with this strategy should be obvious – by the time you figure out whether the first shot has worked or not, you’ve lost another week, a month, three months, during which time you’ve avoided doing ten other things that could have been tested alongside each other.

Thirty years ago, when Lee Iacocca took over an ailing Chrysler and set about giving the moribund company a kick in the butt, he had at one stage no fewer than 37 different strategies, plans, campaigns and re-organizations underway. It upset a lot of people (inevitably, those resistant to change) but it saved the company.

To those who complain “I can’t handle too many things at once, it’s too chaotic/my staff won’t like it/it’s messy/it’s too much going on”, I say this:

Success is not neat. It IS chaotic. If at the end of your day you’ve done everything you needed to do, your desk is tidy, not a pen or stray bit of paper to offend the eye, and nothing ‘left over’ for tomorrow…. that‘s when you need to worry. That’s when the business is in trouble.

The Space Shuttle goes straight up because it has to. But your salon business needs to zig-zig upwards...

The Space Shuttle goes straight up because it has to. But your salon business needs to zig-zig upwards…

Neither is success linear, a straight line from zero to hero. ALL businesses zig-zag to success, like a mountaineer criss-crossing the face of the mountain, attaining a foot-hold here, a hand-hold over there, then another foothold a little to the right and up a bit.

It’s why the Space Shuttle needs the energy required to power a small South American country for an entire year just to escape gravity – if NASA could climb a mountain to get into space, it would, but there aren’t any convenient hand-holds on the way. It has to do it all at once, straight up.

But your salon business ain’t a rocket ship. You need a LOT of hands and feet, all working together – at the same time – to climb the mountain. If you’re only using one foot, or one hand, at a time, you’re never going to climb over the creek at the bottom, let alone zig-zag up the hill.

Hair Salon Price List Template Superstar of the Week – Inner Circle member Rebecca Skehan’s BRILLIANT Christmas

“…up nearly double from Christmas ’08 to this Christmas!”

Rebecca Skehan joined the Inner Circle salon marketing & mentoring program – and got her marketing Toolkit – weeks before she even opened the doors to her new salon Gaia Hair back in 2007.  She is a classic case of turning Massive Action into money in the cash register. Her salon business has never looked back.

“For the first time ever I got myself seriously organized for Christmas Marketing early this year!  Yay! (Normally due to busy home life it is done at last minute, but now I have Kym as my personal assistant in the office I am more organised!)

The new year has brought with it some fresh challenges (mainly staff!), so I’m head down bum up so to speak, managing these issues now…”
That said, I looked strategically at what we needed for this time of year – one being our client average over $100, secondly our overall figures up over $45k, thirdly re-bookings to carry us through the ‘quieter’ Jan and Feb months.  I then did marketing to target these three areas…
Re-booking has gone up massively too.  It has been sitting on about 80%, and one week during the Christmas period it was up at a ridiculous 94%!! Brilliant figures!!
“We put a number of campaigns in place, and they have been seriously successful. Our figures for December this year are nearly double what we did in ’08!
We have an extra staff member and apprentice, but even (taking that into account) it’s a huge improvement.
Well done Rebecca. For other IC members, it should serve as inspiration and motivation.

Salon Gift Certificate Template For Marketing Superstars – how IC Member of the Week Annastasia Bindevis quadrupled her sales…

Back in February 2009 Annastasia Bindevis was a one-woman waxing salon barely able to bring in $800 a week. But when she joined the Inner Circle program and received her copy of the Essential Salon Owner’s Marketing Toolkit® she soon discovered the power of effective direct response marketing.

Six months later her Waxing Queen salon in Melbourne has two staff, she’s just hired a receptionist, and business is booming – her sales have more than quadrupled to $4,000 a week and she’s doing what so many salon owners never manage – to pay herself a salary!

The Promotion that brought in $2,200 in 3 days for Xpertise Hairdressers in Kaikohe.

Every week I have dozens of phone calls from salon owners asking about our Inner Circle program and more often than not I hear that old chestnut…”but I am in the wrong area of town, it won’t work for me, there’s not enough people in my area, it’s the wrong demographic….blah, blah, blah”.

I feel like saying to them “try telling that to Lucyanne Tipoki!!!”  Lucyanne, owner of Xpertise Hairdressers, is in the small sunny Northland town of Kaikohe where there is a population of ONLY 3000, and she is letting NOTHING stand in her way!

In fact, Lucyanne says that she often gets visits from other salon owners in her town trying to find out what she is doing and why she is always so busy, while they are twiddling their thumbs in utter boredom.

Lucyanne had been in business for almost 20 years, doing pretty well but in the last couple of years she was starting to see a huge decline in business and the stress was mounting.

“Things were getting stale, no excitement was happening and I think my clients were feeling it too.  I was almost ready to close my doors”

Fortunately Lucyanne made the decision to turn her business around.  She joined the Inner Circle program in May this year and got her own copy of the Essential Salon Owner’s Marketing Toolkit®.  And the rest shall we say, is history!  Here’s what Lucyanne has to say about the Inner Circle program and how it has changed her life massively in just SIX months….

“I MUST SAY I LOVE BEING IN THE INNER CIRCLE PROGRAM!!!

I received a flyer in the mail and what caught my eye were the words, SECRET TO SUCESS AND ROADS TO RICHES on the flyer.  But I put the flyer down and completely forgot about it until the next flyer came in the mail 2 weeks later.  I re-read the flyer again and I took action and joined the Inner Circle program.

I had attended the seminar in Auckland last year and I was very impressed and learnt a lot in that short amount of time.  I didn’t join that day because I had been in over draft and out of credit for a few years.  I knew I was going to join somehow.  It took me almost another 6 months since seeing the program to join and I must confess I was trying to come up with my own ways of writing ads and letters but after hours and hours of working it out, I just gave up and thought blow it, I am just going to join, (knowing that worldwide marketing has already done the written work for all their members).

So since I’ve joined the IC program it has added a whole new outlook on how to run a more exciting, fun, stress free, business.  It has changed my life.  It almost feels like I’ve just opened up a brand new business and it feels like I’ll do 100% plus better than the last 20 years.

It’s great receiving heaps and heaps of already proven ads or ideas from other members.  I love it as it’s almost like everyone is about helping each other out.

My most successful campaign so far was the Unlimited Free Foils deal.  I put the ad in our local Northern News and it cost $200.  Within 3 days I had sold 25 unlimited foils packages and made $2,200 extra in turnover.  10 out of those 25 clients were upgrades too so I increased my average client spend and 15 of these people have become regular clients.

The people in the far north thought I had won lotto. To give a way something for free in the far north is very rare.  People thought I was crazy.  (It has been a big eye opener to potential clients offering value for money in my ads because it has hardly been done in the hair and beauty industry).  But hey, they took the offer and it has been an amazing response.

The phone kept ringing for weeks and still does.  I am known now for ‘Hey, are you the salon that always offers amazing packages’.  It’s cool and I am happy to say ‘YES I’ve always got something free to give away’.”

*And it’s important to note here that with every promotion Lucyanne does, she gets it out there in as many ways as she can to maximise her response.  It’s on her answer machine, in her shop window, in her monthly newsletter, it’s posted to her existing client base, dropped in letterboxes and much more.  She takes MASSIVE action!

“I now spend about one to two hours a day on marketing as it keeps me all hyped up and excited ready for the next promotion.  I plan to triple my turn over and work more on the business than in the business.  I could do marketing full time.  I love it.”
